Essay Exam Review Questions

Here are the topics that you need to review for your essay exam. You need to be ready to answer all of them, but I will choose the 3 questions you will be responding to on Friday, 12/18/09.

1) What was mercantilism and how did it shape the economic and political relationship between England and its colonies?

2) Discuss the origins of the Seven Years' War and what effect the conflict had on the American colonies.

3) Describe the Great Awakening and the impact it had on colonial America.

4) Compare the economic systems of the upper and lower South. In which region would slavery have died a "natural" death? Explain.

5) In what ways could American women of the first half of the nineteenth century be said to have benefited from changes that resulted from the social reform movement?

Thanksgiving Giving Item collection

No one has posted what they are bringing, even though some have spoken to me about it. We need to have a list because we don't want to have 20 cans of corn and nothing else. I was able to get some ribbon and cellophane paper to wrap the baskets, but I didn't find baskets. If any of you have baskets that you are willing to donate from home, it would be great. Please guys, let's make this happen. We only have til Friday to get this done! The families are counting on us.

Thanksgiving Giving

Key Club is holding a club/homeroom competition to see who creates the most original and complete Thanksgiving basket. Period 1 will participate and represent our homeroom. The criteria is:

* Your basket should be creative and complete, meaning there should be all aspects of a traditional Thanksgiving meal in the basket. (Turkeys and gift cards will be supplied so we have that covered). Be sure to include utensils, napkins, and plates.
* Be creative: Have students include a personal Thanksgiving memory or their favorite recipe and have them bring in the necessary ingredients for it. (This is where the love comes in!! :)
* All baskets must contain non-perishables to avoid contamination.
* Basket MUST be completed and ready for pick up by November 20
* This project begins immediately.

Each group will be assigned an anonymous family so they will be counting on us.

I want to create several baskets, so you will be divided into groups. The group with the best, and most creative basket will win an award! Let's get this done people! They're counting on us.

What to include in the basket:
* Mashed potatoes (instant)
* Stuffing Mix
* canned corn, green beans, yams, etc.
* cranberry sauce
* gravy jars
* Thanksgiving themed plates, napkins, & utensils
* Dry, non-perishable ingredients for your favorite recipes
* Any large baskets, ribbon, or other decorating items you may have at home (I will be bringing some things in as well)
* Any other non-perishable Thanksgiving item I have forgotten to mention

Please post a comment with what you plan on bringing if you are willing and able to participate. Thanks!

Grades

I am still working on entering grades. If your grade is not what you expected, or what it should be due to an error, just relax, take a deep breath, and we'll talk about it on Monday (odd day) or Tuesday (even day). I will be entering a few more things over the weekend and your grades may still go up or down before then.

Just a reminder: The last day to turn anything in to me for a grade is on Monday (odd day) or Tuesday (even day) of next week. Any make-up assignments or late work (for a lower grade) must be in by then to receive credit. Some of you have really been slacking and I will not be doing this again next 9 weeks. Class Supply List

For those of you that want to get an early start on purchasing your supplies (although I know that there are really good deals on most of these things as we get closer to the start of school), the list is as follows:

* 2" (minimum) 3-ring binder (I give a lot of materials to help you along the way)
* 2 spiral notebooks (for notes, pages will not be ripped out!)
* 1 pack of dividers (for binder)
* 1 box of 12 colored pencils (12 minimum- 24 maximum)
* 1 box of markers (8-12)
* 1 highlighter (any color)
* 2 blue or black ink pens
* 2 pencils
* college ruled notebook paper (in notebook and refilled as needed)

These supplies (with the exception of the binder, spiral notebooks, and paper) will be kept in class for use in completing various activities. They will be stored in our class cabinet for your individual use, and will be given back at the end of the school year. If there is anything on this list that you like to use on a regular basis at home, purchase 2. These materials are fairly inexpensive, but if anyone is in a personal situation where getting any of these would be a problem, please send me an email to mrsaborges@dadeschools.net instead of posting a question on here, and I will respond to the message. This information will remain private and I will try to work something out. All other questions and concerns should be posted as comments on this blog below.

P.S. Don't wait until the last minute to get your book!
